Making iPhone Ringtones with iTunes
Ringtones can be made within iTunes 10 directly. It can be a little tricky so here we go
This process will work on Windows and Macs:
Start iTunes 10
Cheap International Calls with Rebtel - Save up to 90%
- Pick your song.
You need to “get info” so right click — then click on the options tab.
Decide the time length of the selection. It has to be 30 seconds or more.
Creating iTunes 10 Ringtone
- Click ok — then right click on the song again.
Select “Create AAC version” – this will create a new version of the song you select and it will be 30 seconds long.
Find the new song (30 second one). Once you have located it right click on it and select “show in finder”.
In the finder or windows explorer rename the file extension from .m4a to .m4r
iTunes 10 – m4r Ringtone File
- Complete by accepting the file extension change to .m4r.
Back in iTunes, in the playlist, remove the file but don’t move it to trash, click “keep file”.
Now you are going to have to re-import the file into iTunes. Double click the .m4r file. That would be in your finder or windows folder.
You should be all set to go. The file should be back into iTunes and you can proceed accordingly.
Ringtone File – iTunes 10
- You need to sync it with you iPhone.
As usual with your custom iPhone ringtones, you need to assign it to your contacts.
I don’t know of any issues if you used iTunes 9 so it should be almost the same.
